The Importance of Some Things…

I know this is a fashion blog, but I must digress to share something incredibly important with you.

There are a few places in Second Life that sort of “are” SL to me. Places I have been going to for years, places I ALWAYS enjoy. They’ve become iconic.

Since 2006,The Velvet has been one of these places. With its eclectic look, variety of people, and consistently thought provoking, fun, and (imho) AMAZING music selection, the Velvet has stood the test of time in SL. If you’ve never heard of the Velvet, don’t feel bad. Somehow, it has been around forever but has stayed small, humble and true to itself.

The Velvet is not your typical SL club. The DJs love music (not to say that other DJs don’t- stop starting drama right now). They aren’t concerned with playing popular music and drawing huge club-fulls of people, though. They want to have a good time and share some stuff they like with other people who can appreciate it as well. There aren’t a million “HOOOOOOOO” gestures. There aren’t strippers. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a DJ at the Velvet ask anyone to do anything to their “naughty box.”

I say all that to say the following:

It was recently brought to my attention that there was an incident that almost killed The Velvet. The current manager wrote about it on The Velvet’s blog, if you’re interested. July 21-22, there is a GIANT reopening/clubwarming party. I want you to go. Please, check it out. The Velvet is NOT for everyone. It might be for you. This amazing venue is one of the best places in SL.

Check it out. Help if you can. Maybe you’ll find a new place to hang out.

❤ Maribel

  1. Thanks so much for this thoughtful and enthusiastic post. It really means a lot to me that the Velvet can touch people through our djs and our music, and I really appreciate your kind words and your blatant promotion. 😉
